How to make your hair shine | | There is nothing like shiny hair to
make you feel beautiful.
Whether you were born with wavy,
curly, straight or super curly hair,
we can help you achieve SHINE.
Shiny hair makes you look healthy and
well-groomed. This doesn't always come
naturally, so you may be required to
make a change in your regular beauty
routine.
Most women will find that hair which
requires a lot of care usually incurs
the most damage as it takes more
effort to achieve effect.
There are many simple techniques which
can help and you will have to play a
lot- achieve a look that works for
your exact hair texture.
We've put together a plan here which
is designed to infuse your hair with
healthy shine all of the time- no
matter the color or texture AND with
little fuss.
For those of us who have to color our
hair, we have to be aware of the
different types of hair dye that are
out there. We have to ensure we are
using products that are formulated for
color-treated hair.
An example of a shine-enhancing hair
color product is Revlon's Super
Lustrous or L'Oréal's Féria. These
hair dyes will work great if you plan
to dye your hair at home.
Products which are designed for
color-treated hair will prevent our
locks from being stripped of color
which will leave our hair looking dull
and lifeless- definitely not the shine
perfection we're after.
One of my personal favorites to do
with my own hair is deep condition.
You should try to do this as often as
you can- it really doesn't take up
much time and if you follow the few
easy steps, you will find it's quite
painless!
First, begin by showering or washing
your hair and toweling dry to remove
excess water. Rub your hands together
to gently distribute conditioner.
Next, begin at your hairline and apply
conditioner from the forehead to the
ends. Comb through hair for even
distribution. Allow to sit for ten
minutes.
A great product that you can treat
yourself to weekly is a hair mask
like Joico K-Pak.
For those of us on tight schedules,
you can achieve the deep conditioning
feel without spending lots of time.
To cut down on split-ends, just
hydrate using your regular
conditioner. In the shower or bath,
shampoo hair and rinse. Next, apply
conditioner while you wash your body
and rinse out when finished.
If you are on a budget and cannot
afford salon quality products, there
is one product on the market right now
which is surprisingly effective for
dull, color-treated hair.
This product is Dove's "Intense
Moisture" shampoo and conditioner. It
smells great and it leaves hair clean
and shiny.
Another great way to keep your hair
shiny and full of life is to use the
natural oil from your hair to add to
its shine. This can be accomplished by
a gentle brushing. Brushing increases
blood flow and will help coat each
hair with protective oils.
If you are prone to using a hairdryer,
be sure to use heat activated shampoos
and conditioners.
Their moisturizers are released by the
heat of the dryer which causes hair to
become soft and shiny, even while
blow-drying.
Examples of heat-activated shampoos,
conditioners and styling products are
ThermaSilk, Vidal Sassoon and
Neutrogena.
These products all work great without
costing you a fortune.
Another tip while blow-drying: keep
hairdryer in a downward direction to
avoid fluffing up the cuticle. Most of
us don't know this but flat cuticles
shine better!
All of this styling and product use
can give our hair a beating it doesn't
deserve. Avoid using a hair dryer some
days and let it just dry naturally.
If you must use a dryer, keep it on
the coolest setting and use a diffuser
or a nozzle. The nozzle also makes
your hair softer as it applies direct
heat.
If you are after curls but don't want
to wreak havoc on your hair, cut back
on the curling iron and opt in for hot
rollers. This is a gentler approach
but still gives you the same outcome:
sexy, wavy tresses.
To prevent scorching, don't spray your
hair with hairspray before using ANY
heated appliance.
All women should avoid weighing their
hair down with a lot of styling
products. They can dry out your hair
and take away your shine. You should
always stick to one or two products
and use them in moderation.
Over time, your hair will adjust and
it will take less effort to pull off
your desired look.
For those of you with really busy
schedules, you can have gleam on the
go! Here are two methods that are
proven to work... FAST:
If you have straight hair, mist the
hair with water from a spray bottle.
Next, massage a few drops of shine
serum into your hair. Always work out
from the layers closest to the scalp.
Comb your hair to distribute product
and let your hair air-dry.
If you have curly or wavy hair, mist
the hair with water and then spritz
on a leave-in conditioner. Then,
finger style your curls into shape.
Let your hair dry naturally for the
best look. To boost shine once the
hair has dried, top tresses with
shine-enhancing spray.
You should always test a few styling
products that are designed to make
your hair shiny. This will help you
find a product that is best for you.
There are many tips for shiny hair and
this is just a few of them. When it
comes to products, it is solely
dependent on your budget, your
lifestyle and your needs. Only YOU
know how much time and effort should
be spent on your hair.
