| Whats the right hair style for your facial shape? | | So, are you totally in love with Renee
Zelleweger's current hairstyle but
don't know if you can pull it off?
Are you absolutely head over heels for
Jennifer Aniston's lovely locks?
Most hairstyles will only suit certain
facial shapes... Let me explain.
The shape of your face and the
proportions of your features are like
your roadmap to hairstyle success.
These things can tell you which
hairstyle is perfect for you.
First, let us do a fun little exercise
to figure out what exactly your face
shape is.
To find out the shape of your face,
measure it with a tape measure or
ruler.
You need to take the following
measurements- be sure to write them
all down:
1. Your face across the top of your
cheekbones.
2. Across your jaw line from widest
point to widest point.
3. Across your forehead at widest
point.
4. Tip of your hairline to the bottom
of your chin.
Once you have those figured out,
here's how to tell which category you
fall into...
If the length of your face is equal to
one and a half times its width, you
are an oval shape.
If your face is as wide as it is long
(this may vary a little but generally
the measurement is close), you are a
round shape.
This measurement can also be closely
related to the square shape.
If your face is longer than it is
wide, you are an oblong shape.
If your face is narrow at jaw line but
wide at cheekbones or forehead, you
fall under the heart shape.
So, now that you have figured out
where you fall, let's check out the
styles you can wear, the styles you
should avoid and celebrities who you
can "copy cat" based on a similar
face shape.
Oval-Shaped Face
Lucky you! Your face shape is the
kind that lets you wear your hair just
about any way you choose. The
forehead and the chin are in
proportion to each other, making both
short and long styles look great on
you!
With this particular facial shape,
avoid covering up your "perfect"
features with heavy bangs, or too
forward-directed styles.
Keep your hair away from your face as
much as possible.
Celebs you can copy include Jennifer
Aniston, Jewel, Cameron Diaz, Cindy
Crawford, Sharon Stone, Uma Thurman,
Julia Roberts, Courtney Cox Arquette,
Elle MacPherson and Tyra Banks...
Just to name a few!
Round-Shaped Face (Square Shape)
For a round shape to create an
illusion of a narrower face, you
should try a cut with layers and
fullness on top, but keep it close to
your face at the sides.
Go either short or longer than chin
length, swept back from your forehead,
with wispy fringes or parted on the
side.
Round-shaped faces should avoid chin
length hair, center parts, short-short
crops, straight "chopped" bangs, and
fullness at side of ears.
Celebs that have a round-shaped face
include Kate Winslet, Natalie Merchant,
Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci,
Charlotte Church, Roseanne Barr and
Ingrid Bergman amongst others.
Oblong Facial Shape
For women with this facial type, you
should definitely go for the short to
medium lengths, fullness at the sides
of your face, and soft wispy bangs.
Women of an oblong grouping want to
balance the look of a long and slender
face.
Oblong face shapes should avoid too
much length as it will make your face
look even longer.
Don't center part your hair or give it
too much height and volume.
When hair gets past your shoulders,
there is a good chance it is doing
more harm than good.
Celebs that are in the oblong face
shape club include Gwyneth Paltrow,
Kirstie Alley, Janet Jackson,
Gabrielle Reece, Nikki Taylor and
Stephanie Seymour.
Heart-Shaped Face
Those with this style know that the
jaw and forehead often look wide and
the chin can appear very pointy.
Short hair usually works well for this
face shape; a thick, choppy, layered
style or a pixie cut is a good choice
because the hair is full on top.
Don't opt in for the slicked back
looks with this face shape.
If you are a dramatic heart shape, the
short full styles with tapered
necklines, which emphasize the upper
face, will make you look top heavy.
Just remember... if you are a dramatic
heart shape, you have great cheekbones
to emphasize!
Stars to watch for with your style
include Michelle Pfeiffer, Ashley Judd,
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Claudia Schiffer,
Lisa Kudrow, Lucy Lawless and Naomi
Campbell.
Although we have touched on the main
face-shape categories, there are a few
other facial types I'd like to discuss
quickly.
If you have a full forehead and long
chin, it may help to add volume below
the chin to balance everything out.
A medium-length bob or a thick layered
cut will lend itself to fullness where
it is needed most.
Fringes can also help reduce the look
of a long forehead.
If you have large features and are
supersensitive about an area of your
face, you can de-emphasize these
features with fullness in the hair.
Straight hair parted in the middle
makes a prominent nose seem even more
so. A fuller style takes off the
emphasis and adds balance.
Long necks are graceful and beautiful
but some women don't know how to
manage their style around this body
part.
A long neck can be shown off with a
short hair cut but on the other hand,
long hair can also enhance a graceful
neck.
It's rather profound how face shape
can play such an integral part of how
great a hairstyle will look on you,
but now that you've got these tips
behind you, you'll never make a hair
blunder again!
