WinRAR is a powerful archive manager. It can backup your data and reduce size of email attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP and other files downloaded from Internet and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file format.

Okay so this is only a trail program, I don't know how long it lasts. Probably 30 days. It hasn't run out on me and I've been using is a while.

Oh, I think I used to use that, but then I switched to win ace or something cause win rar made me feel stupid. I use Aladan stuffit expander now but I think it might be just a mac problem It's really easy to use.

I'm using 7zip software... it can compress in any format (even rar), and is free

I rarely don't use the rar format as it is poorly used outside the Windows geek groups. Still prefer .zip for windows, linux & mac even if the compression ratio isn't the best.
Under linux desktops, I prefer bzip2. And linux server still using gzip, because gzip compresses fastertrhan bzip2 vene if it compresses less good than bzip2.

Yeah I don't like the rar format but I have used it before to expand stuff that I downloaded.
